It's School Lunch Hero Day! Our child nutrition department is AMAZING! Thank you for keeping our kids happy and healthy so they can learn! You're an incredibly important part of our district, and we couldn't do what we do without you all!
Hailey Weatherford was this week's winner of the MHHS 24 Minute Reading Challenge. Way to go!
Water Safety is CRITICAL! AR Act 101 urges districts to provide water safety information to families. In an area like ours -- where water-related recreational options are all around -- this is even more important.
Thank a teacher next week! https://youtu.be/_GkAzYMkUns
No school on Friday for students!
Career-Connected Learning In Action: Thanks to Mr. Josh Smith (parent of a student in Mrs. Reeves' class) for bringing horses to first grade yesterday! Our kids got to learn all about horses from an expert, and they loved it!
A note from Mrs. Dewey:
It is my pleasure to present the Outdoor Adventures Educator of the Year: Freddy Penka. Coach Penka was notified of his receipt of this national award last fall and recently a team came to film him teaching and talked to him about the impacts this class has on students' lives. Please take a moment to watch this video and to reflect on the lives our educators are changing every day.
Freddy got to accept his award and watch the premiere of this video last Thursday at the Outdoors Tomorrow Foundation's annual banquet in Dallas.

MAJOR CONGRATULATIONS go to our own Mr. Freddy Penka who was named the this year's Outdoor Adventures Educator of the Year! This is a huge honor, and Mr. Penka is a great representative of our area and all the outdoor adventures we have to offer. He opens our middle school students up to a variety of new outdoor experiences each year, and the folks at the Outdoors Tomorrow Foundation took notice! Congratulations again, Freddy! You deserve to be celebrated!

MHPS CLASSIFIED STAFF HIGHLIGHT: Mr. David Hirsh
Mr. David Hirsh has been a staple across the district for the past 20 years as a valued member of our maintenance department.
While most of us know David around campus, many don’t know that in addition to his myriad talents at work, he’s also a lifelong musician.
David got his first guitar when he was 10 years old, and he doesn’t remember a time he wasn’t singing. He played and sang in church for decades and has been a member of several bands – including some with his wife. He has enjoyed playing many gigs in a variety of venues, at special events like Hootin’ an Hollarin’, and he will soon play a show for veterans in Gainesville.
David prefers playing folk and easy rock music, and he said he doesn’t take requests. “I’m a stickler for playing the music I want to play,” he said. “I just don’t listen when someone yells out from the crowd that they want to hear a certain song.”
Over the years, David has had the pleasure of mixing his career and his passion for music. “I’ve gotten to do demos with kids at Hackler,” he said. “During Arkansas Week I have gotten to teach the kids about Bluegrass roots and talk about Johnny Cash, who was from Arkansas.”
David can play a variety of instruments and has been honored to share them all with students at MHPS. We appreciate David for his dedication in our maintenance department, but we also appreciate him using his personal talents to enhance the learning and the lives of our students.
MHHS French students, Neveah Bragg and Caden White present a beginners French lesson to Mrs Julie’s and Mrs. Ables’s fourth grade classes.
We want to celebrate Amanda Green, our Dyslexia Coordinator, who defended her dissertation today. Congratulations to the new Dr. Green! Way to go!
Happy Administrative Professionals Day! Our team of administrative professionals is crucial to the work we do day in and day out. Without such a wonderful group, we couldn't do what we do for your kids every day! Thank you for keeping us all on track and for loving kids!
Today is School Bus Driver Appreciation Day! We are so grateful for our drivers. They are integral to the success of this district and our students. They get to know and love our kids in a very special way, and their dedication to student safety and learning is invaluable.
Congratulations to Mrs. Lawrence’s Artist of the Week!
